DAPHNE 2017:
Elysia Crampton presents “Choque Chinchay In The Work of Guaman Poma”
Elysia Crampton will detail the figure of queer Andean deity Choqui Chinchay (alt. spelling from title) also known as Koa, Qoa, Ccoa, Ukurunku, Uturunku, etc., expanding on Sylvia R. Cusicanqui’s work with the Aimara term “ch’ixi,” Crampton will investigate the presence of this deity (choqui chinchay) in Poma’s “Primer Nueva Corónica y Buen Gobierno,” following Crampton’s own hypothesis that the famous work was partly (and covertly) dedicated to the queer religious figure in fatally colonial times.
