City Winery

City Winery
25 Nov 2015

Simply put, the City Winery is enormous. With only two locations—one in Manhattan’s Hudson Square and one at the west end of Chicago’s “Restaurant Row”—this combo winery, restaurant, and venue has garnered a lot of press since opening in the summer of 2012. Musically, it brings in a lot of singer-songwriter types who appeal to a wealthier, more middle-aged crowd, but it also hosts acts like Calexico and Kaki King that skew a little younger.

Created by the founder of New York’s Knitting Factory, City Winery offers a pricey but memorable experience, with fine dining and local wines from imported grapes. Its rustic wood-and-brick interiors, with cool blue and purple lighting, feature bottles and barrels on display throughout; its beautiful, glass-and-wood exterior modernizes an old-school frame. With a 100-seat restaurant, 100-seat patio, and even larger stage room with seated concert dining—not to mention private dining in the mezzanine and barrel room—there’s no shortage of stuff to explore at this upscale restaurant venue.
