Together, Prymek & Sage perform improvisatory americana, ambient pastoralia, and minimalist free music for acoustic and electric instruments.
Jeremy Cunning & Dustin Laurenzi
Chicago improvisers Jeremy Cunningham (drums) and Dustin Laurenzi (saxophone/electronics) share a common fascination with melody, sound and rhythm that has brought them together in countless configurations since their first meeting in 2012. Collaborations with guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Matt Ulery, saxophonist Nick Mazzarella, and other leading forces in Chicago’s improvised music community have highlighted Cunningham and Laurenzi’s empathetic playing and personal approaches to their instruments, however the transparency of the duo setting allows these two like-minded musicians’ voices to shine even more directly.
Patiently building improvisations around melodies, speech samples, and sequences, the duo makes use of various electronics to create spontaneous compositions out of improvised frameworks. Their sound is informed by the rich history of their collective experience performing jazz, folk, post-rock, and beat music.
