In the midst of the proliferation of the use of electronics, Franz Hautzinger made a conscious decision to explore sound and texture exclusively by acoustic means while comprehending the development of digital music, which led to the use of the quartertone trumpet. Duo Duthoit/Hautzinger brings together two of Europe’s most creative improvisers into an intimate co-exploration of abstract music. They will be joined by Chicago musician and composer Michael Zerang.

All this, those victories and defeats, this “History from the Total Crash to ‘Emergency Individualism’”, as he himself described it, made Franz Hautzinger the highly profiled musical personality that he is today. Born on March 11, 1963 in Seewinkel, Burgenland, a Hannibal Marvin Peterson concert at Jazzgalerie Nickelsdorf was the young trumpeter’s “awakening experience”.
