Rudy Royston, Jon Irabagon and Yasushi Nakamura have been playing together in various iterations for nine years. But, it was apparent on their first gig together in a small New York City Jazz club that their passions and musical sentiments were a match: eclectic, adventurous, emotional, groove-worthy, questing. The trio is a robust, organic, pure music experience. Indiscriminate to genre and improvisational venture, the Rudy Royston Orion Trio embodies Jazz with elements of every genre including Rock, Classical, R&B, Drum and Bass, World, Avant-Guard…to name a few.

From many years of playing together the trio has progressed into an intuitive element always striving to further the essence of music. This endeavor delivers a unique and captivating musical experience. Though mostly performing music composed by Royston, the members are all accomplished band leaders and composers themselves, bringing to the music their individual, distinctive voices. The Rudy Royston Orion Trio is rooted in searching, swinging, soul, motley music…fierce, never lacking drive, energy, ambition and purpose.
