South/North: Mesias Maiguashca

February 24, 2016 @ 8:00 pm

Located in Germany for much of his career as a composer and teacher of composition and electronic music, Ecuadorian native Mesias Maiguashca’s trajectory recalls that of Argentinian/German Mauricio Kagel. Descended from parents indigenous to the Andes and a student of Stockhausen, his musical language reflects the folklore and Andean cosmology of his youth and the rigor and mediums of the avant-garde scene in Europe. The Fonema Consort presents the première of a new work by Maiguashca alongside works of Kagel, Helmut Lachenmann, and Chicago-based Ecuadorian composer Juan Campoverde.

Presented by the Frequency Series Mini-Festival and the Renaissance Society with the support of the Goethe-Institut.
