The dance-based predecessor to Metro, SmartBar is the (literally) underground dance bar that’s operated underneath the main venue. It pulls in plenty of big-name and no-name DJs—the only prerequisite is to spread some infectious grooves. From Wednesday through Sunday, the parties rage until 4 AM (5 AM on Saturdays), and despite the clubby vibe and proximity to Wrigley Field, there’s a respectably low factor of bros and spray-tanners. Even the occasional Metro headliner will book or stop by for a DJ set.

Most shows are cheaper in advance or if you arrive before midnight, so save a little loot and plan ahead. Also be sure to see whether your Metro ticket earns you free after-party admission. The coat and bag check is a lot more appreciated than upstairs, where it’s a total waste of a few bucks—so feel free to dance unencumbered and not whip people with your man- or woman-purse.
