Every Tuesday we present Chicago’s top jazz artists in a lively atmosphere, full of cocktail-shaking and spirited conversation. Four Letter Words is a trio made up of Chicago transplants Jake Wark (of New York), Matt Piet (of Boston), and Bill Harris (of Pittsburgh). The formation of the trio grew out of the members’ participation in Constellation’s “Sound of the City Workshop” and their desire to create a collective aesthetic for small group improvisation. The music progresses organically with equal input from all three musicians. The collaboration yields music that ranges from contemplative to ebullient, often in each musical outing, bringing to life their policy of aiming for open ears and even more open musical possibilities.
