MammaBear
MammaBear, a back-to-basics rock outfit, is the brainchild of Kyle Gordon from Atlanta, GA. Gordon’s initial concept for MammaBear was that it would be strictly a studio project in which he would record each instrument to achieve the most accurate representation of his vision. This idea was appealing to Gordon, knowing he would only have to answer to himself; if something did not meet his standards he was responsible for making the necessary changes. He could now create his music exactly as he heard it in is head.
Once word got out about MammaBear, Gordon’s peers were curious to find out what he had been working on so diligently during the Summer of ’13. He played his new album (“Vol 1: Birds of Paradise”) for some friends, one thing lead to another, and a band was formed. Gordon didn’t have plans of this happening, but it was an organic formation that he couldn’t turn down. In reality, live performance is a muse that Gordon has no true intention of quitting anytime soon.
“Vol 1: Birds of Paradise”, released July ’13, is a reverb-heavy album recorded on 1″ tape by Cyrus Shahmir, showcasing Gordon’s raw and unique pop-sensibility. Gordon immediately returned to the studio, this time with engineer and producer Kris Sampson (B-52s, Coathangers) to construct his follow up releases, “The Strange Love EP”, and “Hell Cat”. “The Strange Love EP”,released Aug. ’15 , has a fuller, richer sound while still capturing the gritty-rock essence that is MammaBear. “Hell Cat”, also recorded by Sampson, was released Feb. ’16. It rings true to MammaBear’s uncommon musical stylings while providing smart and savvy lyrics that actually make the listener’s think.
To solidify his musical vision, Gordon has teamed up with videographer Nick Rhodes of Coalesce Films to create the perfect visual accompaniments to his music. With eight videos under their belts, the pair have no intentions of slowing down. With no end in sight for MammaBear, their much anticipated second full length album will be released in the Summer ’16. In the meantime, MammaBear is focusing on touring in support of “Hell Cat”, and igniting fires in unsuspecting fans of rock ‘n’ roll.
