Martyrs’

Martyrs’
19 Nov 2015

Located on a quaint strip of Lincoln Ave. in Northcenter, Martyrs’ has spent the better part of two decades booking some of the best (and, occasionally, most bizarre) acts in world, blues, jam, folk, freeform rock and jazz, and beyond, boasting a seriously impressive list of past performers—Pete Townsend, John Entwistle, Jon McLaughlin, Beck, Jeff Tweedy, Regina Spektor, and hundreds more.

On any given night, you’re liable to encounter hippie gyrations and middle-aged dance moves. But with a decently laid-out space (usually with room to sit or stand), great sound, and a kitchen that’s open until midnight (1 AM on Saturday), Martyrs’ plays the good host. Though the food selection is pretty standard bar fare, a handful of specialty pizzas (you can build your own) are worth a short wait. And with an emphasis on single-malt scotches, the drinks will make that wait fly by.
